How to add bundles in Shopify

#1

Creating bundles

In this post we will describe how to add a product inside Stock&Buy which contains bundled items and how that syncs to your Shopify store(s).
Stock&Buy has a very flexible way for handling bundled items. Basically, a bundle can live under any product, a product can have both bundles and variants and a bundle can contain any number of variants.

Example

This example outlines the steps to perform to create a Jean :jeans: & Shirt :shirt: bundle which we are going to sell on Shopify as one single product.

  1. The Jean has different sizes: 40,50,60
  • The shirt has different colors: Green, Blue
  • We would like to create a bundled product which includes a Jeans size 40 and a green shirt.
  • Go to Inventory, click on “Add Product”. This is the product which will contain your bundles. Think of it as “The bundle” you want to sell. In our example it will be one set of one Jean and one Shirt bundled together.
  • Give your product a name (ex: Jean & Shirt bundle)
  • At the bottom of the page, click the Add Bundle button. The bundle editor will open up.
  • Click on “Add bundle line
  • Search for Jean, and select variant with the Size 40
  • Enter quantity 1. I want to bundle only one Jean in this combo.
  • Click on “Add bundle line
  • Search for Shirt, and select variant with Color green. Entity quantity 1.
  • Click on “Save & Close”
  • Repeat steps 8-16 until you create all your bundle items.

Bundle quantities

Bundles quantities displayed within Stock&Buy are actually calculated and do not exist in reality.
Only quantities of real flat items such as cup or saucer exist.

For example, say you have 12 cups and 12 saucers in stock.
You build bundles of 6 cups and 6 saucers and bundles of 12 cups and 12 saucers.
Your inventory will show as follow:

  • Cups: 12
  • Saucer: 12
  • 6 x cups & saucer: 2
  • 12x cups & saucer: 1

Although one might think that the quantities are duplicated, they aren’t. This is because the bundle quantities are imaginary quantities which give you an indication of how much of those bundles you can sell.
So, if you sell 1 cup and 1 saucer in retail, the inventory quantities will change to:

  • Cups: 11
  • Saucer: 11
  • 06 x cups & saucer: 1 :bulb: You can only build one bundle
  • 12 x cups & saucer: 0 :bulb: You can’t build a bundle here as the minimum quantities are not enough

Bundles of bundles

Bundles of bundles a.k.a nested bundles are not supported within Stock&Buy. The reason is because any nested bundle setup can be simplified to a flat, simple and non nested bundle structure.
As an example, the following bundle structure:

  1. A Cup product with its all possible variations
  2. A Saucer product with its all possible variations
  3. A Cup and saucer product as a bundle containing 1 cup and 1 saucer.
  4. A 12 x cup and saucer product as bundle containing 12 cups & saucers (defined in point 3 above).

Can be simplified to obtain:

  1. A Cup product with its all possible variations
  2. A Saucer product with its all possible variations
  3. A Cup and saucer product as a bundle containing 1 cup and 1 saucer
  4. A 12 x cup and saucer product as bundle containing 12 cups and 12 saucers
