Product options and variants

#1

Your inventory is made up of products (this is what you sell Ex: shirts :shirt:, jeans :jeans:, etc).
Products come in different colors, sizes, or weight, etc. This is what is known in Stock&Buy as Product Options.
When you have a product with different options, the concrete value for those options generate what we call “Variants”

Example
If you sell cups, a cup is the Product. It has a size and a color, those are the options. A variant of this product would be a Green, Small Cup. Another variant could be a Purple, Large cup.

Note:
Variants are what holds stock in Stock & Buy. Also the SKUs are present on the variants.
If a product doesn’t have any options, we still generate one default variant, with empty options.

How to create a product with Options (i.e Variants)

  • From the Inventory page, click on Add product
  • Enter all usual information
  • Check the “Product has variants” option
  • Add your options (Ex: color, Size) in the first column, and the values (Ex: Green, Blue) in the second column.

:bookmark: You need to press Enter after each option value to generate the variants

  • If you need more option, click on the button “Add new option” on the top left of the table
  • Click on save.

Add an option to an existing product

If you forgot to add options when you created your product, or you want to track new options for this given product, no worries, you can add those options later on!!
To do that:

  • Click on the product you want to add options to
  • On the right action menu, click on “Add options”
  • Add your options (Ex: color, Size) in the first column, and the values (Ex: Green, Blue) in the second column.

:bookmark: Note: you need to press space after each option value to generate the variants

  • If you need more option, click on the button “Add new option” on the top left of the table
When done, click Save & Close.

:bookmark: When you add new options for an existing product, the existing variant will get a “Default value” for the new options. You have to go a set the right option values for each of those variants.

Rename an option name

To change an existing option name, click on the “Add Option” button in the product page. A dialog will show up where you can view all the options and their values

:bookmark: If you have Shopify integrated to your Stock&Buy account then the option name has to be changed on all your connected stores as well. This way, all connected parties will be in sync again (Stock&Buy does send the renamed option to connected stores but Shopify ignores the update and keeps the old option name)

Delete an existing option

Deleting options is also possible to do within Stock&Buy. However, an option can only be deleted if all the product variations use the same value. Example, in the example below:

Only the Color option can be deleted because all the variation in the product are of the same option value. In this example, all the variations have their Color set to “Silver”

Add a variant to an existing product

Let’s say you were selling Green T-shirts, but now your supplier has Red ones, Yuppi!!
No Worried again, you can easily add this new variant to an existing product.
To do that:

  1. Click on the product you want to add a variant to
  2. On the right action menu, click on “Add variant”
  3. Enter the quantity, price etc… Enter also the new option values (in our example Color: Red)
  4. Click Save & Close
